There were many Jews alive during the time of Jesus Christ. They saw Jesus. They spoke to Jesus. They listened to Jesus. But they did not believe that God had sent Jesus to them; to the “lost sheep of Israel”. They said, “Moses is our Prophet.” “God sent us Moses!” “God revealed the Torah (Ten Commandments or Old Testament) to Moses!” “We follow Moses!” “We don’t need Jesus!” “We don’t want Jesus!” “Moses is our prophet, why should we have to follow Jesus?” “Isn’t it enough to follow Moses?”
Can Jews enter Heaven?
Is there any Christian alive today who believes that the Jews do not have to follow Jesus? Step forward gentlemen. Get your Bibles ready. Isn’t a fact that Jesus was sent exclusively to the “Lost sheep of Israel”? Isn’t it true that Jesus referred to the “gentiles” as somehow unworthy of his message? Can the Jews enter Heaven saying “We don’t believe in Jesus!”? Just think about that question for one minute. Can the Jews enter Heaven saying “We don’t believe in Jesus!”? OK, time’s up! If the Jews have to believe in Jesus, then doesn’t that make Moses obsolete? Does that mean that God changed His religion and had to send Jesus with the correction? Does sending Jesus take anything away from Moses? Or better yet, does it mean that Moses made a mistake???
We Muslims also believe in Jesus and Moses. Yeah that’s right, the same Jesus and the same Moses! We also know that Jesus Christ was born from a virgin woman, Mary! We also know Jesus will return to the Earth before the Day of Judgement! A Muslim never mentions the name of Jesus without saying the words of respect: “Peace be upon him”. (When I was a Christian, I usually mentioned the name of Jesus combined with a profanity!) I was a Christian for 29 years before embracing Islam in 1988 at Albuquerque, New Mexico. Since then, it has never ceased to amaze me that most Christians are unaware of the high esteem and regard in which we Muslims hold Jesus. I never had to give up my faith in Jesus to embrace Islam. In fact, I increased my faith in Jesus when I became a Muslim! Sounds strange? Unbelievable? How can that be?
Just some food for thought gentlemen. I will return to all these questions in a moment…
We all (Jews, Christians and Muslims) believe in God. The word “God” is the English word we use to refer to the Creator and Sustainer of the Heavens and the Earth. The All Powerful, Almighty, Most Merciful and Most Beneficent. In Arabic we say Allah’ (stressing the second syllable). As long as we are talking about the Creator of all Creation, the Sustainer of the Heavens and the Earth, we are talking about Allah, God or whatever word you have in your language. Allah is not the God of a certain people. (The Torah refers to the “God of Israel”) Allah is the God of all the creation, all of the Universe and everything in it. God created all this for a great purpose. God revealed in the Holy Qur’an:
“Allah created the Heavens and the Earth with truth (and none shared Him in their creation). Verily therein is surely, a sign for those who believe.” Qur’an 29:44
God did not leave mankind with no Guidance! God sent Prophets to guide mankind:
“O Children of Adam! If there come to you Messengers from amongst you, reciting to you My Verses, then whosoever becomes pious and righteous, on them shall be no fear nor shall they grieve.” Qur’an 29:35
God sent every nation of mankind a Prophet. God sent: Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad to name just a few. God Says in the Holy Qur’an, the Final Testament:
“And Verily We have raised in every nation a messenger, (proclaiming): Serve Allah and shun false Gods… “ Qur’an 16:36
Also, in another verse of the Qur’an, God says :
“And for every nation there is a messenger. And when their messenger comes (on the Day of Judgment) it will be judged between them with justice, and they will not be wronged “ Qur’an 10:47
The Prophets or Messengers were humans like ourselves:
“Say: If there were on the Earth Angels walking about in peace and security, we should certainly have sent them down for them from the heavens an Angel for a Messenger.” Qur’an 17:95
God sent every Prophet with the Same Message! Every Prophet brought the same Religion. God does not change His Orders . To think different would be illogical. God never makes mistakes, God is perfect. If we believe that God sent one Prophet with one religion to one people and then turned around and sent a different prophet with a different religion to another people, we are making God like humans. That would be saying that God made a mistake or changed His mind. No! God never makes mistakes and never changes His orders!
Every Prophet was sent with the Same Religion
We read in the Qur’an:
“He (Allah) has ordained for you the same religion (Islamic Monotheism) which He ordained for Noah, and that which We have revealed to you (Oh Muhammad), and that which We ordained for Abraham, Moses and Jesus, saying you should establish Religion and make no divisions in it… “ Qur’an 42:13
In another verse Allah says:
“So set thou thy face truly to the religion Hanif (of Monotheism), Allah’s fitrah (Natural Way) with which He has Created mankind: No change let there be in the religion of Allah: that is the straight Religion: but most among mankind know not” Qur’an 30:30
Why are there so many religions on the Earth today?
You could say now: “If God sent so many prophets to mankind with the same religion, then why are there so many religions on the Earth today?” It is a very good question and one I spent a great deal of time researching after I embraced Islam. There are many reasons for man’s deviation from the true message which each prophet brought. As each prophet came and went, generations passed after them. With each generation, more and more of the actual message was forgotten. Thus, passage of time is one of the reasons. Some of what the prophets brought was changed intentionally. This was often done by the ruling class who manipulated religion to control the masses. Most of the books which God revealed were not recorded or written down during the lifetime of the prophet whom received the revelation. Often time generations passed before revelations were put into writing. Written revelations or books were often changed or revised again and again. And of course, the most important reason for mankind’s loss of revelation is our enemy, Satan.
“Oh mankind! Verily, the Promise of Allah is true. So let not this present life deceive you, and let not the chief deceiver (Satan) deceive you about Allah” “Surely, Satan is an enemy to you, so take (treat) him as an enemy. He only invites his followers that they may become the dwellers of the blazing Fire.” Qur’an 35:5-6
It soon becomes clear that the changes in God’s religion are not from God, but from man. It is not the purpose of this article to attack the validity of the modern day Bible or Torah. But, since most of my readers are not familiar with the Holy Qur’an, let us take a small look at the validity of this book. Muslims claim that the Qur’an is the Final Revelation from God. This is not a small statement. If anyone claims that they have the final revelation from God, then that implies many things. It has been many centuries since the Qur’an was revealed and only God knows when the Day of Judgement will be. If any book claims to be the final revelation, then:
1) It must always be available throughout the ages, until the Last Day. Otherwise, men will come on the Day of Judgement and claim that they wanted to follow God’s revelation, but it wasn’t available to them in it’s original, unadulterated condition.
2) It cannot be available only to the clergy or upper classes, but must be available to all mankind.
3) It cannot be revised or changed in anyway, otherwise it could not be the Final Revelation!
4) It cannot have contradictions. Especially scientific contradictions. If it is the Final Revelation from God, then no matter what scientists discover in the future (fact, not theory), it must be in complete agreement.
The Qur’an meets all of the above conditions. Not a single letter of the Qur’an has ever been changed since its revelation. It was memorized by a large number of Muslims during the lifetime of prophet Muhammad, and it has been memorized by large numbers of Muslims in every generation up until today. The Qur’an has always been available to all the people, not some of the people. It has never been revised or changed. The most amazing thing that I found was the scientific miracles in the Qur’an. There are verses in the Qur’an about human embryonic development, mountains, origin of the universe, the cerebrum, seas, rivers, internal waves in the deep seas, cloud formations and lightning. Amazingly enough, they have all stood up to modern scientific analysis and many non-Muslim scientists have commented on this. None of these theories were known 1,400 years ago when the Qur’an was revealed. Allah the Most High, says in the Qur’an:
“We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption)” Qur’an 15:9
God says in the Holy Qur’an, The Last Testament:
“No falsehood can approach it from before or behind it. It is sent down by One Full of Wisdom, Worthy of all Praise.” Qur’an 41:42
I promised to return to the questions about Jesus and Moses. According to the Qur’an, Jesus is similar to Adam. God explains clearly in the Qur’an:
“The similitude of Jesus before Allah is as that of Adam; He created him from dust, then said to him: “Be”: and he was. – The truth (comes) from thy Lord alone; So be not of those Who doubt” Qur’an 3:59~60
God states clearly that Jesus is His Creation, not His son. But Jesus had no father! A miraculous birth! The immaculate conception! Hold on a minute… God created Adam with no father or mother, Eve with no mother whatsoever and all of us with both a mother and a father. God can create any way He Pleases. God says in the Noble Qur’an:
“Are you more difficult to Create or is the heaven (above) that He (Allah) constructed? On high has He raised its canopy, and He hath Given it order and perfection. “ Qur’an 79:27-28
God gives the answer in another verse:
“The creation of the heavens and the earth is indeed greater than the creation of mankind: yet most of mankind know not.” Qur’an 40:57
If God created the universe and all that’s in it, surely the creation of a single man with no father was easy for Him. God-Allah states clearly in the Qur’an just what is the case of Jesus:
“…Christ Jesus the son of Mary was a Messenger of Allah, and His Word (“Be”) which He bestowed on Mary, and a Spirit proceeding from Him. So believe in Allah and His Messengers. Say not “three”: desist: it will be better for you: for Allah is One God: Glory be to Him (Far exalted is He) above having a son. To Him belong all things in the Heavens and on Earth. And enough is Allah as a disposer of affairs “ Qur’an 4:171
Does Jesus have to followed by the Jews?
But what about the question of if Jesus had to followed by the Jews? Every Prophet that God sent to this Earth must be followed and obeyed!
“And Obey Allah and the Messenger and beware (of Sin) and fear Allah. Then if you turn away, you should know that it is Our Messenger’s duty to convey in the clearest way” Qur’an 5:92
Likewise, we must follow the Prophet Muhammad, may the Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him. After the advent of Prophet Muhammad, the Jews and Christians have no choice but to follow him. Allah revealed in the Qur’an, 1,400 years ago:
“Say (Oh Muhammad): We believe in Allah and in what has been sent down to us, and what was sent down to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob and the tribes of Jacob, and what was given to Moses, Jesus and the Prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between one another among them and to Him (Allah) we have submitted (in Islam).” – “And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers.” Qur’an 3:84-85
Of course, responsibility comes with knowledge. When we learn about something, then we are held accountable for it. In this respect, the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah’s Peace and Blessings be upon him, said:
“By Him in Whose hand is the life of Muhammad, he who amongst the community of Jews or Christians hears about me, but does not affirm his belief in that with which I have been sent and dies in this state (of disbelief), he shall be but one of the denizens of Hell-Fire.” Sahih Muslim
What is the status of Prophet Muhammad?
So what is the status of Prophet Muhammad then? God sent two Angels to Muhammad and they explained it clearly:
“I have seen in my dream as if (angel) Jibreel is by my head and (angel) Meekaa’eel by my feet. One of them tells his companion: “Give a similitude of him (i.e. Muhammad)”; the other replied: “Listen (Oh Muhammad), may your ears hear, and Think (Oh Muhammad), may your heart understand that the similitude of you and of your nation is that of a King who acquired for himself a piece of land; on it he built a house and furnished it with a dining place. He then sent a Messenger inviting people to his food. Some of them accepted the invitation, while others turned it down. Verily, Allah is The King, and the land is Islam, and the house in the Jannah (Heaven) and you Muhammad are the Messenger; whoever responds to you (by obeying you), will enter Islam, and whoever enters Islam will enter Jannah, and whoever enters Jannah shall eat from what is in it.” Al Bukhari and At Tirmidhi
As they say, “The proof is in pudding” gentlemen. Everything I have put forth in this article is readily available in books or on the internet. Check it out for yourself. Search for the truth sincerely and you shall find it. “May God guide us to what pleases Him and protect us from Satan, amin.”
